Nourishing potential from the beginning.
Providing nutritious meals and supporting food gardens in schools and communities.

For some children, hunger is the first barrier
For some children, hunger is one of the first barriers standing between potential and learning. A child who arrives at school hungry cannot give their full attention to the lesson in front of them.
The NOURISH platform brings together the Foundation’s food-security mandate and its ambition to improve access to nutritious food for children in rural South Africa. The focus is both immediate and long term: helping meet a daily need while developing more sustainable support around schools and communities.
From January 2027, our ambition is to work towards helping provide nutritious food every day to 10,000 children in rural South Africa. It is an ambition to be developed with partners, not a statement of current delivery or secured funding.
A child’s opportunity to thrive can begin with something as fundamental as a nutritious meal.
The NOURISH delivery model
- Feed. Work with schools, communities and delivery partners to help children access nutritious meals.
- Nourish. Engage qualified nutrition expertise and food partners to improve the quality and suitability of support.
- Grow. Explore school and community gardens, agricultural education and water-efficient growing where local conditions suit.
- Sustain. Build relationships and local capability that continue beyond a once-off donation.
